LCATS, the Licking County Area Transportation Study, is the forum for cooperative
transportation decision-making by the principal elected officials of general purpose
local government in Licking County, Ohio. Members of LCATS include Licking County, the
City of Newark,
the City of Heath,
a representative from the Ohio Department of Transportaion, Licking County Transit Board,
Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority, and the Village of Granville.
Eligible members include the Village of Buckeye Lake, Village of Hanover,
Village of Hebron and the Village of Millersport.
As a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) designated by the Federal Government,
LCATS receives federal transportation dollars each year through a sub-allocation from
the Ohio Department of Transportation. In
order to receive these funds LCATS must perform minimum transportation planning
requirements.
Recent examples of transportation projects made possible by LCATS are:
the new Bike Trail Parking Lot at Cherry Valley Road and Reddington Road and the
resurfacing of 21st Street in Newark from State Route 16 to State Route 13.
Future planned transportation projects are:
Replacement of the Orchard Street Bridge,
the purchase of two ADA compliant vehicles for the Newark-Heath Taxi-Token Program,
the purchase of two ADA compliant vehicles for the Licking County Transit Board,
and improvements at the intersection of State Route 16 and Church Street.
